Dactyl - A History of Hits

Here is a list of all the recorded output by Dactyl, all the opinons expressed our my own and not necessarily the rest of the bands.

The first release was the "Transvestitute EP" we recorded 4 songs with Chris Camden in the early months of 2005 and put three of them on the EP.The songs on this are:
1. Transvestitute (this song was about a transvestite prostitute that worked the street by Noels house, people enjoyed this song.)
2. Pterodactyl Grenade (this is a song about pterodactyl's)
3. Pull the Pin (this is one of the first songs with me on vocals, the first batch of songs were primarily Noel singing and me adding back up vocals. The lyrics on this are "Hand Grenade, will kill you.Flack jacket might save your ass.Pull the pin!"Short and sweet.)

Our second release was "The Dead and The Living EP". We recorded another 3 songs with Chris Camden a few months later in 2005 and used the one song(Of the Dead and The Living) we left off the first ep.The song list for this one is:
1. Of the Dead and the Living (This is a song about the living dead and it is one of my favorite Dactyl songs,we had to stop playing this after a review(a positive review mind you) of this ep compared it to a Green Day song that shares a similar riff. The other dudes were bummed,so we stopped playing it(thanks Mary!),but I stil love this one).
2.Ulterior Motives (this song is about your DNA changing and taking over your body,we made a conscious effort nottowrite from a personal stand point, this would change later on.)
3. Radio Danger(This is something Noel made at home with radio clips about snakehead fish the low end thing you hearisNoel humming into a mic.We re-did this for the Teething EP,good job Noel.)
4. Snakehead (this song is about the snakehead fish that was wreaking havoc in Crofton pond around the time,I remember I was stoked on myself because this was hard to play and sing at the same time, not that I ever really played it tight.)
5. Xanadu (another song about pterodactyls)

The Teething EP was recorded in May of 2006 by Adam Cooke. We recorded the music live at the Talking Head Club and the vocals in Adams living room.Reptilian Records released this for us.Listening back on this, none of us are really happy with the sound of the recording, whatever happened from the living room to the mastering place what we got back kind of sounds like a wet blanket is covering the recording.
1. Ulterior Motives
2. Tooth Magic (your freedoms a moustache is a lyric in this song)
3. Dry Snitch (the line "yourblood tastes like metal, illusion makes you happy"comes loosely from a dream I had, sometimes vagina has a slight metallic taste to it,thats the metal part. The illusion part comes from the fact it was a dream,a happy one.In the cd insert the lyrics are written in swedish a translation from our friends in Bacon Wagon. We were originally going to have the lyrics to each song written in a different language but instead we didnt.)
4. Radio Danger! (rerecorded,we all smoked weed and made a bunch of noise for like 15 min. when you hear noise at the beginning or end of songs on this it is from this noise jam.)
5. Snakehead Fish (we added Fish to the title)
6. T.Grenade (Pterodactyl Grenade with a different title)
7. Train to Miami (a SteelPolebathtub cover we liked to play this, the thing with playing covers is ,it becomes the only thing people want to hear)
8. Pull the Pin!

The inserts:

Summer 2006 we recorded 2 songs with Kevin Bernsten for a split 7" with our Swedish friends Bacon Wagon. We became friends with the Bacon Wagon dudes through myspace, when we decided to do the split they came to the US and we did a 2 week tour in october. This tour was hard for me because I had my first child in feb. and I had never been away from her for that long.It was also very fun and we made friends with some people we will know forever. We all learned how to say bad words in swedish. The 7"came out on Hit Dat records we actually got the records the day of our first show on the tour.

Bacon Wagon side:

1. Musth
2. Rubber Knife
3. Garbo (I would sing this with them on tour a few times)

Dactyl side:

1.Im Pretty Sure Im Dead (a song about cotards syndrome)
2. Next Wave of Who Cares (I loved playing this song last because its open ended and we could play it as long as we wanted, the other guys have to wait for me to start in with my vocals at the end so it was kind of up to me when it ended.I would drag it out sometimes just to piss off unfriendly crowds)

In 2007 Carlos Batts got ahold of the Teething EP and wanted to use some of the music in his film Kiss Attack. He used parts of Snakehead Fish and Tooth Magic.

In 2007 we recorded 4 songs with Kevin Bernsten for a split we were planning with Gunna Vahm.Long story short,we got fucked over by a kid who said he would put this out and after Ricky busting his ass on the layout(which was badass by the way)this kid just bails on us.Around this time Carlos invited us to San Diego to play a show for the release of Kiss Attack,so not having the record we were supposed to have in our hands by then and a tour to the west coast with no new music to sell we burned a cdr with 3 Dactyl songs and 4 Gunna Vahm songswhich became amp noise number .5 I was going to do a record version of this but Vahm disbanded soon after we came back from tour.Noel did the art and silkscreened the covers and I helped assemble them at Reptilian. After we ran out of the silkscreened covers(we made 60)I made more with a simple cover with our name and Gunna Vahms. The fourth song we recorded is called "Wolfgobbler" and comes from an inside joke with the Bacon Wagon guys.We were both supposed to write a song with the title "Wolfgobbler" and do another split.Unfortunatly Bacon Wagon went splitsville not long after returning from tour.

Dactyl side:
1. Knife in my Pocket (when we recorded this we did gang vocals on the "lets waste away!"part it was hard to keep a straight face.)
2. Im Happy I Cut Off My Legs (The title comes from a Jerry Springer episode.I thought it was a perfect metaphor for my situation around this time.)
3. Behind Closed Doors (Our longest song at over 6 min. and also my favorite. Its about dirty sex, which is probably why I love it so much.I had a shitload of fun recording this because there is so much going on in it.If you listen to it with head phoneson you will hear a bunch of whispers and other things that you will miss if you dont listen close.)

Carlos Batts liked our songs on the split with Gunna Vahm and used Behind Closed Doors as the opening song to his next film Voluptuous Biker Babes,it will be out Feb.24th

A split 7" with our friends Fight Amp is in the works and will probably be our final release. We will be recording 5 songs with Nick Skrobisz including a Pixies cover in the next few weeks just because we think the new stuff we wrote is the best so far.
